Luther Young builds composite images that create complex representations of people who exist across multiple (many times contradictory) social, professional and intellectual spaces. Through the use of varied materials, color arrangements and angular placements, his detailed portraits seek to capture the dynamic qualities of each subject.
Young was born in 1987. He graduated with degrees from the Carnegie Mellon School of Design and the Rhode Island School of Design. Young’s interest and background move fluidly across many disciplines. Formally trained as an industrial designer, his understanding of scale, material and production processes formed a foundation for his creative pursuits. With professional experience in branding, exhibition and wayfinding design, his multi-disciplinary training has come together to form his current practice area.
